Profile:
San José State University is teaming with Comcast, KBLX 102.9 FM and CityFlight Media Network, to bring the 2004 Read-2-Lead Classic to Spartan Stadium on Saturday, September 18, 2004. The Spartans kick off the Read-2-Lead Classic against the Morgan State Bears at 2:00 pm in celebration and support of San José State University’s Read-2-Lead program.

The Read-2-Lead literacy and mentoring program teams San José State student-athletes with youth in the community to improve reading habits and promote the pursuit of higher education.

San José State University is a leading metropolitan university with a culturally diverse campus that prides itself in promoting life-long learning. During this summer’s program, participants will read "Satisfied with Nothin" by California author Ernest Hill. The program will culminate in the Read-a-Lot Summit. The Read-a-Lot Summit will include an open discussion with the author, youth, and community about the book and the importance of building the lifelong habit of reading.

The Read-2-Lead Classic game includes a special half time show featuring the Morgan State University band – the Magnificent Marching Machine. They have played National Football League Championships, Presidential Inaugurations, and World Series Games as well as performing in the major motion picture Head of State, featuring Chris Rock.

Other events include the Read-a-Lot Summit on Thursday, September 16, Scholarship Gala on Friday, September 17 and an all-day Multicultural Festival from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday, September 18, the day of the big game.
